Certificate of good standing, state by state
The bank wants it dated within 30 days. Another state wants it before it will register your LLC there. Each state names it differently and charges its own fee, from $0 to $50. This page puts every official order page one click away, with the fee where the state publishes it.

Who asks for it, and what they check
The bank
Account opening for an LLC usually needs the certificate next to the articles, operating agreement and EIN letter, all dated recently. Thirty days is the common window.
The lender
Underwriting pulls a fresh certificate before closing. A delinquent state record is a closing delay, and the fee is paid again for the reprint.
Another state
Registering the LLC to do business in a second state means filing a certificate from the home state with the application, often dated within 60 or 90 days.
A buyer or investor
Due diligence starts with the state record. A certificate is the quickest proof the company is current and can sign a contract that holds.
Heading to the bank?
The certificate is one of four documents the bank will ask for
Banks want the certificate of good standing dated inside the last 30 days, next to certified articles, the signed operating agreement and the IRS EIN letter. The Bank-Ready Pack orders the certificate from the state the day you pay, so it lands inside the window, and assembles the rest from one form.
- Certificate ordered from the state when you pay; state fee invoiced at cost
- Operating agreement and banking resolution generated from your answers
- One dated pack, ready for the account-opening appointment
Frequently asked questions
What is a certificate of good standing?
A one-page statement from the state's business-filing agency that an LLC exists on its records and is current on the filings the state requires. It is a snapshot dated the day it is printed; it says nothing about taxes owed elsewhere, licences or lawsuits.
Is it called the same thing in every state?
No. Across the 51 jurisdictions here it appears under 9 names, including Certificate of Compliance, Certificate of Existence, Certificate of Fact - Status, Certificate of Fact of Existence/Registration, Certificate of Good Standing…. Banks, lenders and other states accept the document under any of those names as long as it is recent and state-issued.
How much does it cost?
Of the 50 states with a fee verified on the official site, the range is $0 to $50, and 2 charge nothing. Where we could not verify the fee on the state's own page, the state page here links to it rather than reprinting a number.
Why do banks want it dated within 30 days?
Because it is a snapshot. A company can fall out of good standing the day after the certificate prints, so most banks and lenders want one issued within the last 30 days; a few accept 60. Order it the week you need it.
What if the state says the LLC is not in good standing?
The certificate will not issue. Catch up the missed annual report or tax, replace a lapsed registered agent, and if the LLC was administratively dissolved, reinstate it first. Each state page links to the fix.
Where does the information come from?
Each state's own agency page, read 2026-09-12, with the exact fee and order URLs linked on every page. Annual-report figures were verified 2026-09-01. States change fees without notice; the official page is the final word.
Is this legal advice?
No. Vermilion Vitez is a filing-services company, not a law firm. Educational reference material; the official state site is the final word.
