Free QR Code Generator

Make a QR code for a website, Wi-Fi network, contact card, phone number, email or text message. The preview is a real code, so you can scan it with your phone before you download it.

  • Static codes: what you type is stored in the image itself
  • No scan tracking and no redirect through our servers
  • Download PNG, JPG or SVG with a free account

Make your code in three steps

Choose what the code opens

Add the content and pick colors

Colors

Use a dark code on a light background. Light-on-dark and low-contrast codes are blocked because many phones can't read them.

Error correction

Higher levels still scan when part of the code is scratched or covered, but hold less content. M suits most uses.

Preview and download

Choose PNG, JPG or SVG, the image size and an optional caption in QR Studio after you sign in. The account is free and needs no credit card.

What to know before you print

The content is in the image

A static code holds your link or details directly. Nothing passes through us when someone scans it, and it keeps working for as long as the link or number inside it does.

Test it on two phones

Scan the preview with your own camera, then scan a test print with a second phone before you order a full run. If the link has a typo, every printed copy has it too.

Keep the white border

The blank margin around the code, called the quiet zone, helps phones find it. The QR standard asks for at least four modules on every side, and every code here includes it.

How error correction trades space for toughness

Each level reserves part of the code for repair data. A higher level can be read with more of the code damaged or covered, but there is less room left for your content. For a short website link the difference doesn't matter. For a long contact card it can.

QR code questions

Are these codes static or dynamic?

Static. Your link or details are written into the image, so a scan goes straight to them and nothing routes through Vermilion Vitez. We don't make dynamic codes, which means you can't change where a printed code points, and we don't count scans. To change the content, make a new code and print it again.

Is the QR code generator free?

Yes. Making and previewing codes on this page is free and needs no sign-up. Downloading needs a Vermilion Vitez account, which is also free and needs no credit card. Your design carries over when you sign up or log in.

What happens to what I type?

The code is drawn in your browser. When you click Download, your design is kept in your browser's storage for up to two hours so it can follow you into your account, and it is deleted once QR Studio opens it. Wi-Fi passwords are never put in that copy. If you save a code in your account, we keep it so you can download it again later.

How big should I print a QR code?

For something held in the hand, like a business card or a table tent, print it at least 2 cm (about 3/4 inch) wide. Go bigger for posters and windows that people scan from a distance. Use the SVG file for print so the edges stay sharp, keep the white border, and scan a test print before you order a full run.

Which error-correction level should I choose?

M works for most codes. Pick Q or H if the code will be printed small, outdoors or somewhere it may get scuffed. Pick L only when you need to fit a lot of content, like a long contact card.

Can I upload a PDF or a menu?

No, we don't host files. Upload the file somewhere public, such as your website, Google Drive or Dropbox, then choose PDF link or Menu link and paste its https address. If that link stops working, the code stops working too.

Keep your codes in one place

QR Studio is part of the free Vermilion Vitez member portal. Save the codes you make, download them again as PNG, JPG or SVG, and edit a copy when a link changes.
