Does every state require a registered agent?
Yes. All 50 states and the District of Columbia require an LLC or corporation to continuously maintain a registered agent with a physical street address in that state, available during business hours, to receive service of process and official mail.
Do I need a registered agent in every state I do business in?
One per state where the company is formed or registered as a foreign entity. Each of those states wants an agent with an address inside its own borders. Our price is the same in every state, so multi-state companies pay per state, not per surprise.
Which states have no LLC annual report, and does that change the agent rule?
Alabama, Arizona, Missouri, New Mexico, Ohio, South Carolina ask LLCs for no yearly state report. The registered-agent requirement is separate and applies in all of them, every day the company exists.
