Reserve the name in Delaware
Not ready to file the articles yet? Delaware lets you hold a name for 120 days for $75, filed with the Delaware Division of Corporations. A reservation holds the name against other filers; it does not form the LLC, and it expires if you let the window pass.
Most people skip the reservation and file the articles straight away, since forming the LLC is what actually secures the name. Reserve when the paperwork, funding or partners will take longer than the reservation window allows.
