Florida Nonprofit Name Search
Check a name against the official Florida registry before you spend the filing fee.
Run your proposed name through the Florida Department of State, Division of Corporations (Sunbiz) records (portal verified 2026-09-08). The same official search covers nonprofits and LLCs in Florida; the state applies its nonprofit naming statute to whatever the registry shows. A clear search does not reserve the name or guarantee approval.
Search the official records
The Florida Department of State, Division of Corporations (Sunbiz) keeps the authoritative business registry. Search the name exactly as you intend to file it, including punctuation and the designator.

- Try the name with and without a designator (Inc., Corp., Association); whether Florida requires one for nonprofits is in the state's naming statute.
- Words implying a bank, insurer, school, or government agency are commonly restricted for nonprofits and may need state approval.
- Registered-agent coverage is required from day one of the entity; ours is $74.25 a year in Florida through Registered Agents Inc. See the Florida registered agent page.
